When you think of the most important functions of local government, chances are the municipal budgeting process comes to mind. This may be one of the more confusing aspects of your job. Therefore, you need to know the most effective ways to keep this process running smoothly.
As an elected or appointed municipal official, you are responsible for the development of a realistic and accurate working budget that will help guide your municipality's financial decisions. This course, recently updated by our team of instructors, is designed to review the budgetary process.
This course will help municipal staff reduce budget stress by providing strategies to improve the year-round budget management process. Specifically, we will demonstrate how to set up, implement, and monitor your budget. Techniques will be presented to help build the budget, manage fund balances, adjust for changing financial conditions, and provide for interfund transfers. Communication techniques will be discussed to help you present your budget to both the governing body and the public. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their challenges and ideas. |

Who Should Attend This course is for elected municipal officials, secretaries, managers, financial directors, and others involved in developing and monitoring municipal budgets.
Walk-in Registrations Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Walk-ins are accepted on a space-available basis. Please note there are times when a session is cancelled or rescheduled. Registered attendees will be notified of schedule changes prior to the session. Cancellation/No-Show Policy A cancellation received less than 10 business days before the session you are registered for, is subject to a $20 processing fee for refunds. Those who cancel within 48 hours of the session date or do not attend, forfeit the full registration fee and if unpaid, will be invoiced.
